Working at a busy NHS teaching hospital, I also run a busy, complex neurosurgical practice in both the NHS and private sector.
I have a busy spinal practice covering all aspects of degenerative spinal conditions including back pain, sciatica and neck pain.
I have published extensively in both spinal and neurosurgery and is heavily involved in training the next generation of neurosurgeons.
Meet Professor Pietro D'Urso
I have been a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Salford Royal Hospital since 2014.
I have completed my training in Neurosurgery in Italy and London and spent a year for clinical research in the prestigious Mayo Clinic, USA.
I am involved in training and teaching and I am the author of numerous publications in international Journals.
I am also the author of Neurosurgical book chapters and act as a reviewer for international Neurosurgical Journals, including World Neurosurgery, Surgical Neurology International and British Journal of Neurosurgery.
I routinely manage Neurosurgical conditions including brain tumours, degenerative spine, disc protrusions, neck pain, low back pain and sciatica, cervical spine stenosis, lumbar spine stenosis, head trauma, brain haemorrhages, hydrocephalus, Chiari Malformation.
I provide specialist care for patients with benign and malignant brain tumours, including astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, glioblastomas, ependymomas, brain metastases, meningiomas, cavernomas, hemangioblastomas, brain cysts, pineal cysts and pineal tumours.
I specialise in awake craniotomies with brain mapping, brain tumour resections with fluorescence and intraoperative ultrasounds techniques, intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring, neuro-navigation, minimally invasive cranial surgery, cranial endoscopy and keyhole surgery.
Training
I originally trained in Italy, where I obtained my medical degree and completed my training in Neurosurgery.
I worked in Italy as a Neurosurgeon in 2009 and then moved to the prestigious Mayo Clinic, USA, for a clinical research year.
In 2011, I moved to London to work at King’s College Hospital, where I enhanced my surgical skills and specialised in Surgical Neuro-oncology.
